JETTAINER, in collaboration with Lufthansa Cargo, has introduced fire-resistant AMX unit load devices (ULDs), making Lufthansa the first airline to adopt these containers, reports London's Air Cargo News.
The AMX containers, manufactured by Satco, have received certification in compliance with the latest Technical Standard Orders (TSO) C90e specifications set by the Federal Aviation Authority (F).
jettainer highlighted that these ULDs can contain a fire for up to six hours, providing crucial additional time for flight crews to safely land the aircraft in the event of a cargo fire.
Since the beginning of June, Jettainer has been supplying Lufthansa with 50 of these AMX ULDs.
Satco vice president Randolph Chappell stated that the primary focus during the development of these ULDs was addressing concerns related to the safe transport of lithium batteries.
'Our main focus is to improve ULD safety by collaboratively working with our customers to address their safety concerns,' said Mr Chappell.
'One of our primary areas of focus has been the safe transport of lithium batteries.
'This is why we opened our Air Cargo Safety Research Centre, the world's first manufacturer-owned full scale burn test facility, to rapidly develop new fire resistant ULD designs to provide the best solution possible,' said Mr Chappell.
'We are very pleased to have Jettainer as a globally active collaborator, leveraging their insights gained while working with their airline customers and through their engineering team.'
