SAUDI's leading Red Sea gateway, jeddah Islamic Port, achieved a significant milestone in setting a new monthly record in October, handling a throughput of 511,348 TEU, reports Dubai's Maritime Standard.
The record volume reflects growth in both imports and exports, as well as transshipment trade expansion and breaches the previous record set by Jeddah Islamic Port in July this year, when it handled 491,197 TEU.
October was also a record-setting month for one of the port's biggest container terminals, Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), which handled a total of 306,757 TEU, which it claims is a new monthly record for any terminal in Saudi Arabia.
RSGT says it achieved a host of monthly operational milestones, including the most vessel calls, most import containers, most export containers and most transshipment containers, in October.
RSGT also welcomed the maiden call of Messina Line's Jolly Oro to Jeddah on its East South Africa Service. A ceremony was held aboard the 4,600-TEU capacity vessel to mark the occasion.
