APM Terminals Mumbai, the top terminal at JNPT that operates as Gateway Terminals India, handled two million TEU during the year, followed by DP World's NSIGT facility which recorded a throughput of 990,000 TEU, reported The Maritime Standard.
The port's newest container facility, PSA's BMCT, recorded 820,000 TEU in 2019, the port authority owned JNPCT 770,000 TEU and the smaller DP World NSICT facility 520,000 TEU.
Highlights of the past year for JNPT included the inking of the new Inter-Terminal Rail Handling Operation (ITRHO) agreement with all the terminal operators at JN port, which came into effect in August 2019 in an effort to improve operational efficiency, reduce container dwell times and expand its share of containerised rail freight.
