THE International Air Transport Association (IATA) and FIATA International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations has announced FIATA's endorsement of the iata Cargo Handling Manual (ICHM).
This follows an extensive one-year process of discussions, review and collaboration between the two organisations, says FIATA.
'The ICHM provides standardised procedures for airlines, ground handling agents (GHAs) and freight forwarders, ensuring consistency and efficiency throughout the cargo process. By adopting these standards, freight forwarders, airlines and GHAs will better align their operations, by leveraging their respective expertise to improve efficiency across the supply chain.'
Said IATA cargo chief Brendan Sullivan: 'FIATA's endorsement of the ICHM supports IATA's goal of creating a safer, more efficient air cargo industry. Standardisation of procedures reduces risks, enhances operational performance and improves efficiency.'
Said FIATA director general Stephane Graber: 'FIATA has worked closely with IATA in reviewing the ICHM, providing valuable input to ensure that it addresses the specific needs of freight forwarders of all sizes around the world, including SMEs.'
