Hapag-Lloyd hints that its first 20,000-TEUer is in the offing
THE CEO of Hapag-Lloyd has hinted that the German shipping giant may ready to join the 20,000-TEU club started by its G6 alliance partners OOCL and MOL, reports Dubai's Arabian Supply Chain.
A source in Hapag-Lloyd has said that a decision will likely be taken toward the end of the year, and that discussions with Korean shipyards are underway.
Without saying yes or no, company CEO, Rolf Habben Jansen told reporters that the cost advantage of 20,000-TEUer was so great that they could replace older, smaller ships easily. The company's biggest ship is 13,166-TEU.
