CARGO handler, Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) has bagged the 'Supply Chain Innovation of the Year (Smart Logistics)' award at the Supply Chain Asia Awards in Singapore, in recognition of the company's recently introduced Smart Cargo Locating project.

Smart Cargo Locating is a Hactl-developed technological solution to the common problem of quickly and accurately locating loose cargo in major transit sheds. Combining 2D augmented reality (AR) barcode labels, a self-developed indoor global positioning system (GPS), cameras and wi-fi, Smart Cargo Locating instructs the forklift driver where to rack outsize loose cargo in the warehouse.

Subsequent identification and retrieval are made easier and faster, with the aid of stored position information and photographic images transmitted to the forklift driver's hand-held device.

Chief executive Wilson Kwong said: 'Hactl is deeply honoured to receive one of these prestigious awards. I thank the judges for recognising our latest efforts to drive inefficiency from the supply chain, and Supply Chain Asia for continuing to stage this competition which has repeatedly proven its value in nurturing best practice, professionalism and innovation in logistics.'
