GUY PLATTEN has announced he will step down as secretary-general at shipping's top lobby group, with a search for a successor to helm the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) set to get underway in the coming months.
Mr Platten, who moved from the UK Chamber of Shipping to ICS six years ago, will stay in the job through to the middle of next year. He has made no plans for life post-ICS, telling Singapore's Splash 247 that he wants to spend more time with his family.
'It has been a really difficult decision as I have so enjoyed the role and it's definitely one of the best jobs in this industry, however I want to make a bit more time with the family,' he said.
Mr Platten's time at ICS has been focused on overcoming the massive logistical hurdles brought about by Covid, as well as trying to shape the green shipping regulation debate.
