FLORIDA governor Ron DeSantis expects supply chain bottlenecks to worsen in the coming months, encouraging ships to reroute to his state's ports, reports Bloomberg.
'It has the potential to get a lot worse,' said Mr DeSantis.
'And so Florida can really be stepping up to try to ameliorate that, particularly as we get into the holiday season.' said Mr DeSantis.
Mr DeSantis has been repeatedly mentioning the supply-chain issue, as leaders in his party have attacked the White House for not doing more.
Said Cargomatic head of strategy Weston LaBar: 'We've had a lot of success directing current customers to the Port of Jacksonville, and it really comes down to the size of the vessel that's coming into smaller seaports.'
Mr Labar declared that there's only so much inland infrastructure that can support large megaships.
Florida's coastline includes the world's biggest cruise port at PortMiami, but cargo ships require highly specialised infrastructure.
The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach started operating 24/7 to help alleviate backlogs in the global supply chains. Mr DeSantis declared Florida ports already work around the clock.
