Geodis expands at Schiphol to cope with growing demand
GEODIS Netherlands has launched a new airside gateway at Schiphol airport to help expedite the processing of cargo through the Dutch hub and meet increasing demand
25 July 2019 - 19:00
The Geodis Amsterdam Gateway comprises 2,500 square metres of warehouse and office space and is located directly next to the airport's runway.
The company said that the new facility is in reaction to 'a tremendous growth in volumes' while 'anticipating the demands of the future market', reports London's Air Cargo News.
'Time is precious to customers and their demand for the quick delivery of goods is increasingly important,' the freight forwarder said. 'The Gateway being located airside will help meet these demands and at the same time enhance security.'
Operations director Freight Forwarding, Ellis de Jong, said: 'We estimate that Gateway will bring a significant decrease in airfreight handling times, ensuring quicker delivery of cargo and a better service to our customers. Export wise, with Gateway we gain more efficiencies on the consolidation side.'
Thomas Kraus, president & CEO North, East and Central Europe, added: 'The opening of the Amsterdam Gateway is the next important step in both our regional planning and in our global growth ambitions. It will substantially increase our competitiveness and reinforce the crucial hubbing function of our airfreight operation in the region.'
