The 'Mermaqid Vision' with four crew members on board was spotted floating in sea north of Darwin by a federal aircraft in the night of May 27, 2018, about 130 km off shore. The ship had run out of fuel and was running dangerously low on water supplies. It had been drifting for 30 hours and had only just been reported missing when they attracted the attention of the plane of the the Australian Border Force. The pilot saw the crew shining a light from their phone on a jerry can and in the vessel to attract attention. During the rescue effort it was discovered the men were in possession of several bottles of alcohol and a commercial quantity of cannabis. Three men have been given notices to appear in the Wurrumiyanga court at a later date. A 24-year-old man has been charged with possessing and supplying a commercial quantity of a Schedule 2 drug and been remanded in custody to face court on May 29.
