THE 63,500-ton ore carrier Burns Harbor has departed from Twin Ports, 40 miles from Duluth, the first laker to open the Great Lakes summer navigation season, according to the Duluth Seaway Port Authority.
Laden with iron ore in Lake Superior, she left for Indiana, according to American Steamship, which owns the vessel. She is now joined by the 32,450-ton Honorable James L Oberstar, a self-discharging bulk carrier, reports ABC News Duluth.
The Soo Locks have opened and the Honorable James L Oberstar passed under the Aerial Lift Bridge, making it the first laker to leave the Duluth Harbour this season.
