CONTAINER volume in the first half throughout the Russian Railways (RZD) network increased 12.2 per cent to 3.5 million TEU year on year, reported St Petersburg's PortNews.
Volume of containers transported to domestic destinations reached 1.4 million TEU, up 12.5 per cent in the first half, RZD statistics revealed.
The number of loaded containers delivered in all types of destinations increased by 18.3 per cent, exceeding 2.6 million TEU.
This included 410,200 TEU of chemicals and soda, up 7.9 per cent year on year; 286,400 of timber cargo, up 0.1 per cent; 220,400 machines, machine tools and engines, up 26.7 per cent; 208,100 fabricated metal products, up 13 per cent; 207,200 automobiles and components, an increase of 1.9 times and 204,300 industrial goods, up 0.1 per cent.
In June, the RZD rail network hauled 599,500 TEU to all destinations, up 16.6 per cent year on year.
