THE filipino seafaring community has garnered significant attention lately, particularly with the recent arrival of survivors from the fatal bulk carrier attack in the Gulf of Aden, reports Singapore's Splash 247.
Additionally, the government has pledged intensified efforts to secure the release of the crew abducted nearly four months ago from a car carrier by the Houthis.
Manila authorities are now collaborating with diplomatic representatives from other nations to negotiate the release of 25 seafarers, 17 of whom are Filipino, who were captured by Houthis while their car carrier, Galaxy Leader, was passing near Yemen November 19.
During a press briefing, foreign undersecretary Eduardo De Vega expressed his frustration at the prolonged delay in securing the release of the Galaxy Leader crew.
'I want to take the opportunity in this occasion to ensure the families that we haven't forgotten them. We have been doing everything that we can do although it's not just really a Philippine issue, it's a global issue,' said Mr De Vega.
