TRANSPORT Logistic, the world's big trade fair for logistics, mobility, IT and supply chain management, at the Munich Exhibition Centre made Eurogate a centrepiece attraction this year.

Eurogate, Germany's leading terminal operator, and sister company Contship Italia, had set up a booth to celebrate their respective 20th and 50th anniversaries.

The German company was founded in 1999 by the Hamburg family enterprise Eurokai and the Bremen logistics company BLG by merging their container terminal businesses.

At the time, Eurokai invested a 33.4 per cent share of Italy's biggest terminal operator, Contship Italia, in the new company Eurogate.

Today, Eurogate operates 13 container terminals at 11 ports in six countries mainly located in Europe, with a throughput of 14.1 million TEU in 2018.

In 2012, Germany's only deep-water terminal - Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven - was put into operation by Eurogate. The throughput continues to grow by double digits, reaching 655,000 TEU in 2018 and serves currently three ocean going shipping lines, two of which are Asia-Europe services.

In addition to container handling, Eurogate operates intermodal transport and extended services for cargo and containers as well. The company is also actively involved in the One Belt One Road project of China.

Its train terminal EuriKombi in Hamburg and its container freight station (CFS) in Bremerhaven provide efficient service for China-Europe block trains.
