Coast Guard Ship Savitribai Phule coordinated the rescue of the eight crew members of the cargo ship, which had set sail from Beypore port in Kerala with 240 tonnes of cargo consisting of bricks, cement and vegetables, and was reported drifting 70 nautical miles east of the Androth Island.
Sea and air coordinated searches were also undertaken with Indian Navy aircraft in the area, according to a Press Trust of India release.
A ship in the vicinity, the Gaschem Norsee, picked up the crew members and later transferred them to the coast guard vessel, which brought them back to Androth Port where they were handed over to the local administration.
