DELHI-based EFL Shipping India recently, which handled 200,000 tonnes of air freight last year, has launched a weekly B777F charter flight between Pittsburgh and Doha to target 'global brands', reports London's Air Cargo News.
'For global brands, cargo can be consolidated from multiple sourcing markets enabling them to drive increased efficiencies and effect just-in-time inventory models to optimise the supply chain,' EFL said.
The service gathers air cargo from dispersed parts of India and Asia before consolidating it and distributing it from Pittsburgh.
The inaugural shipment of over 90 tonnes was moved on a Boeing 777 freighter operated by Qatar Airways Cargo from Doha to Pittsburgh International Airport in Moon, Pennsylvania.
Through the service, the company is able to offer customers a total transit time of 72 hours between Asia and regional distribution centres and retail stores in the US.
'As more customers opt for speed, the launch of this weekly service follows the hub and spoke model and will facilitate capabilities of providing time-definite deliveries in USA's largest cities,' said the company statement.
'The collaboration with Qatar Airways Cargo enables EFL offices in the Far East and Indian subcontinent to access capacity without any interruption and provides customers the opportunity to feed larger volumes and enjoy 100 per cent flown as per planned performance.
'Furthermore, the geographical position of Pittsburgh offers a unique advantage where on-forwarding to primary customers in the US east and the Midwest can be fulfilled overnight,' it said.
