Damco signs Swiss agri-chem giant Syngenta to 4PL global contract
SYNGENTA, the world's biggest agricultural chemical company, has signed a contract with Damco as the lead logistics partner (4PL) for its global sea and air freight shipments.
The agreement builds on Damco's longstanding relationship with Basel-based Syngenta and is based on four pillars covering the sourcing, execution, monitoring and analysing of logistics services while providing end-to-end visibility.
To support its growth targets, Syngenta is developing a more flexible and scalable logistics operating model where Damco's expertise will play a critical role.
In 2015, Syngenta issued a tender for a 4PL solution that was won by Damco, Maersk's standalone forwarder.
One objectives is to harmonise differing local and regional solutions into one that provides total visibility and facilitates supply chain optimisation, said the Damco release.
"We are building an industry-leading supply chain solution," said Syngenta logistics chief Marion Matthewman.
She said Damco has demonstrated its ability to become a strong business partner, and this agreement will be a key enabler to help deliver Syngenta's business objectives.
Said Damco chemical chief Anthony Elwine: "Syngenta knows from experience that we are familiar with the specific requirements of the chemical industry, where most cargo is classified as 'dangerous goods'."
