The cyclone Hola which passed end of May has once again worsened the conditions for the recovery of the 'Kea Trader' off New Caledonia. Strong surf on the Durand Reef has again shifted the foreship, which had previously been pushed onto the stern, away from this now. It was listing 18 degrees to starboard since. Climbing both parts of the wreck under acceptable safety conditions has since been considered difficult. The situation led to a reassessment of priorities. Removal of debris scattered on the reef has been identified as a priority task in the short and medium terms, with a view to avoiding further environmental pollution and preparing for the arrival of heavy equipment in order to make the best use of the resources mobilized by the Shanghai Salvage Company (SSC) and limit the risks associated with working conditions on the reef. In principle, it was still possible to board the wreck, but only under particularly favourable weather conditions. A plan adapted to the changed conditions was currently under development.
