CHINA's official news agency Xinhua sees the brief G20 encounter between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump as something of a rapprochement in the current trade war.
Under the headline, 'Analysts say Africa to benefit from easing US-China trade tensions,' the Xinhua dispatch continues:
'The latest bid by China and the United States to resolve their trade issue signals better times for global trade,' said the news agency report.
The two leaders 'agreed to restart economic and trade consultations between their countries on the basis of equality and mutual respect. This marked an important consensus after Washington's protectionist measures and repeated backtracking had triggered a new flare-up of trade tensions between the world's two largest economies,' said Xinhua.
The story, datelined Nairobi, quoted MA student Cavince Adhere, who said the move was a welcome relief to the global economy, and other junior commentators, who said much the same thing.
