REGISTRATIONS of China-made electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe rose 23 per cent from January to April compared to the same period last year, despite the potential for higher tariffs on battery-powered imports from China, reports the Financial Times.
According to Schmidt Automotive Research, 119,300 Chinese-made EVs were registered in Western Europe, including the UK, in the first four months of 2024, representing one in five imported electric vehicles.
Founder Matthias Schmidt noted that producing vehicles in China currently offers the best profit margins for carmakers.
The EU remains a key market for chinese exporters, with a 10 per cent tariff on EV imports from China, compared to the 100 per cent tariff imposed by the US last month.
