PORTS across china moved a total of 116.5 million TEU over the first five months of 2022, a 2.3 per cent increase year-on-year, London's Port Technology reported.
Despite facing challenges due to the recent city-wide lockdown, Shanghai remained the country's most productive port in May, handling 3.4 million TEU.
On June 1, Covid-19 restrictions began to ease. However, seven districts were placed on lockdown again shortly after to conduct mass testing drives.
The Ports of Dalian and Yinkou processed the least number of containers last month - both moving only 350,000 TEU.
This represented a 25.5 per cent year-on-year decline for the Port of Yinkou. Year-to-date volumes at the port have only reached 1.68 million TEU, down 23.9 per cent compared to the same period in 2021.
The Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan saw the largest increase in volumes, moving 3.37 million TEU in May, up 18.7 per cent year on year.
Recent reports found that the port has been operating steadily in light of the temporary closure of expressway exits and service areas.
Cargo volumes also amounted to 6,251 million tonnes over the period of January to May 2022, a slight decline of 0.5 per cent year on year.
