It was learned that the first officer who fell into the sea from the ship İnce Ege near the Kerch Strait lost his life.
Yücel Ulaşkın, the 1st Officer of the Singapore-flagged İnce Aegean ship owned by Ege Shipping, operated by İnce Denizcilik, fell into the sea while descending on a cross to measure the draft in Taman Port, Russia. It was reported that Ulaşkın, who could not be rescued from the water despite the efforts of the crew and port authorities, lost his life.
On the other hand, İnce Denizcilik, the operator of the ship, made a statement:
“On 04 02 2022, on the Singapore-flagged thin Aegean ship of Ege Shipping, which we operate, while the port authorities were operating on the ship in Taman port of Russia, 2nd Captain Yücel Ulaşkın was taken from the rope cross to read the drafts together with a master sailor to conduct a draft survey. While descending, she fell into the sea at 02.32. A life buoy was immediately thrown at him, and upon the notification of the master sailor who was there, the ship's captain and the relevant personnel rushed to the deck and the aid operation began.

Since there was a 2 m wave and it was not possible to lower the rescue boat, a menoverboard distress message was sent immediately and assistance was requested from the port via VHF 11.
The ship's personnel continued the rescue operation, and one personnel entered the water during this operation, but it was not successful due to waves exceeding 2 m and winds of 17-20 knots.
Meanwhile, with the help of coastal tugs, the survivor was rescued from the sea 45 minutes later.
First aid and heart massage were performed in the tugboat, and the doctor came from the beach, but he could not be saved.
We wish God's mercy on our colleague who lost his life in this event, which made us all sad, and we express our condolences to his fans and our community.
As the investigation continues on the subject, public opinion will be informed as more detailed information becomes clear.”
