GLOBAL provider of cargo handling equipment and terminal services, Kalmar is to deliver seven E-One2 rubber-tyre gantry cranes (RTGs) to Puerto Central S.A (PCE) in San Antonio, Chile for US$14 million.
The deal includes the cranes, spare parts, training for operators and technicians as well as civil works and other auxiliary equipment to automate RTG processes. The order was booked in June 2014 with deliveries to start in July 2015.
The Kalmar RTGs will enable Phase 1 of the terminal's capcity expansion of 450,000 TEU as part of PCE's plan to be the biggest box shop in Chile. Besides a fast delivery time, it was vital for PCE to have the cranes delivered as fully erect.
"The deal will allow us to focus on other areas of our project, like civil works and subsidiaries' contracts," said infrastructure and equipment manager of Puerto Central Mauricio Argandona.
Cargotec's Kalmar diesel-electric E-One2 RTGs provide performance at minimum energy consumption. The RTGs incorporate an optional variable speed generator, enabling fuel savings of 45 per cent by optimising the RPMs according to the required power.
These RTGs reduce CO2 emissions by 100,000 kg a year compared to others based on a fuel consumption of 21 litres per hour and 4,000 operating hours a year. The Kalmar E-One2 RTGs' maintenance interval is the industry's longest at 1,000 hours.
Kalmar's SmartFleet, SmartStack and SmartRail systems are also part of the order, along with a full training package for RTG operators and technicians.
