The "AMP Crystal" suffered engine failure on Jan 22, 20167, at 4.35 p.m. transiting the Tsugaru Strait in western direction. The unloaded ship was en route from Kashima to Niigata. It was anchored off Mutsu with the help of tugs. Local fishermen requested the soonest relocating of the vessel, because it was moored close to fixed fishing nets and traps. It was taken on tow in the morning Jan 25 by the Japan Coastguard vessel "Rebun" (IMO: 9638161), to be towed to Hakodate, Hokkaido.
