SOME 9,000 canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers early have launched a work-to-rule campaign just three days before the Canada-US border is set to open to vaccinated Americans.
Union members warned the slowdown could cause long delays at the border and potentially have a 'dramatic impact' on Canada's supply chains, reports the American Journal of Transportation.
Observers also point to potentially important impact on Canada-US bilateral merchandise trade exceeding US$2 billion each day.
Both the Public Service Alliance of Canada and the Customs and Immigration Union served a strike notice to the Canadian government on Tuesday, according to a news release.
The union's members include border service officials at airports, land entry points, marine ports and commercial ports of entry, post offices, trade officers, inland enforcement officers, intelligence officers and investigators.
