THE British Department for Transport (DfT) has warned of 'very significant' disruption on Dover Straits ferry routes if customs checks are introduced in France, reports London's Air Cargo News.

DfT minister Chris Grayling outlined details of three contracts with ferry operators to provide additional roll-on roll-off capacity as part of its no-deal or 'hard Brexit' contingency plan.

A large number of air freight truckers between UK airports and those in mainland Europe use cross-Channel ferries and truck shuttles operated by Getlink between Calais and England.Mr Grayling said that the additional ferry capacity can be used for 'critical goods such as medical supplies' in the event of disruption to cross-Channel crossings.
