BLPL Singapore, part of Transworld Group Singapore, has boosted its fleet of vessels to 14 after taking delivery of its third owned container vessel, the blpl Faith, at the Busan Anchorage in Korea, on November 24.
The company, which is the shipping and logistics arm of the Transworld Group Singapore (TGLS), has moved a long way from its modest start of 300 containers in 2007, and reaching 5,000 TEU in 2010, to achieve its current resources of 32,000 containers. In 2010, the company started offering reefers to customers, and soon moved from being an NVO (Non-vessel operator) to ship owner with its first Liner in 2012.
The year 2012 also marked a new chapter with the formation of Transworld GLS taking over the agency and logistics solutions of BLPL. Transworld GLS has established its presence in over 10 countries covering all logistics needs from door pickup at origin to door delivery at destination.
Mahesh Sivaswamy, chairman and managing director of Transworld Group Singapore, said 'BLPL has made major milestones in its growth. I'm very proud of what the team has achieved - not just in capacity but also in the range of intermodal containers,' adding that his motto and secret for success is 'Action Without Delay'.
BLPL counts among its successes the prestigious Enterprise 50 Awards which it achieved over five consecutive years from 2012. Presented by KPMG and Singapore's Business Times, the most outstanding companies are recognised for their performance. In 2016, BLPL had the honour of being the number one company at the awards.
Looking ahead, BLPL plans to expand its range of logistics solutions into more markets. Equipped with a sizeable fleet of 3,000X40' reefers and over 700 ISO tanks, BLPL will explore new sectors. Currently, BLPL covers over 28 countries and 120 destinations. Its reefer fleet which first tapped Far East sectors has now expanded into the Indian sub-continent, South East Asia and Middle East.
Raja Vikraman (Vikram), CEO of BLPL, commented: 'Our mainstay is flexibility. BLPL has been a pioneer in introducing new routes. The first was the Yangon to India route; then Thailand to West India; Southeast Asia to Middle East, and we will keep adding to this list. We are not a scheduled operator and therefore can nimbly deploy our vessels as direct services in a short time.'
Another aggressive move the company took was digitising its business with the team of in-house IT professionals developing and supporting the software systems for BLPL.
'There are now app-based applications to enable customers to do seamless tracking, internal inventory systems to manage efficient usage of container assets, software to enable more efficient connections at the trans-shipment hub: all of which are efficiencies which have been passed on to customers,' the company said in a statement.
'We've witnessed the toughest shipping phases since the date of inception in 2007: from the Great Recession to the latest Pandemic Times. Every journey leads us to discover new prospects even as the team emerges stronger. There are exciting times ahead,' Mr Vikram added.
