SUSTAINABLE Aviation Fuel (SAF) booking platform Avelia is expanding into air freight, reports London's Air Cargo News.
Avelia, which currently offers services to the business travel sector and is part of the Shell group, will now offer its blockchain technology to track and allocate SAF emissions savings for both freight forwarders and shippers.
The investment comes as the air cargo industry continues to target emissions reduction but tracking emissions reduction generated through the use of SAF can be complex.
'With freight forwarders and their shipping customers seeking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, this secure solution enables the sharing of SAF emission reduction benefits across the value chain, providing verified emissions reduction while supporting broader aviation decarbonisation,' Avelia said.
Said Shell Aviation president Raman Ojha: 'By enabling the sharing of environmental attributes between physical SAF users and organisations seeking to meet their sustainability targets, Avelia creates a pathway for broader part.
'Avelia is now evolving to meet the air freight sector's need for solutions to demonstrate verified emissions reduction progress. Through enabling freight forwarders to access and allocate SAF environmental attributes to their shipping customers, both parties can access these attributes for emissions disclosure while supporting broader SAF adoption,' he said.
