THE Federal Aviation Administration (F) is allocating US$291 million from the Inflation Reduction Act for initiatives to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in aviation by 2050, reports Chicago's LawnDale News.
Some $244.5 million is earmarked for 22 projects focused on producing, transporting, blending, or storing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), as well as for scoping studies on SAF infrastructure needs.
SAF is made from renewable sources and reduces lifecycle carbon emissions compared to conventional jet fuel while fully compatible with existing aircraft and engines.
These grants will boost SAF production, strengthen supply chains, and improve accessibility.
Another $46.5 million for 14 projects that develop, demonstrate, or implement low-emission aviation technologies.
These projects aim to reduce carbon emissions, enhance fuel efficiency, and increase the use of SAF.
