AN aviastar freighter was reportedly destroyed when it caught on fire at Xiaoshan International Airport in China, reports London's Air Cargo News.
The blaze fire broke out in the cabin of the TU-204-100C, which was decked out in Cainiao livery, on January 8 as it prepared to depart from the Hangzhou airport on its way to Novosibirsk in Russia.
A fire crew responded but were unable to stop the fire spreading through the rest of the aircraft. Eight crew members and the cargo handlers working on the aircraft are reported to have escaped without injury.
Aviastar, headquartered in Moscow, Russia, began operating flights between Hangzhou and Moscow on behalf of Cainiao, the logistics arm of e-commerce giant Alibaba, in late 2019.
