Asia-Europe rates soar 42.4pc to new high in 2013 - $1,423/TEU
ASIA-EUROPE spot rates were resurrected from the sub-US$1,000-per TEU level last week, rising 42.4 per cent to $1,423 per TEU, according to the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI).
The $424 rate increase on the trade brings the Asia-Europe rate up to its highest level this year.
The index also revealed a strong increase of 42.3 per cent on the Asia-Mediterranean trade, which rose to $1,366 per TEU during the week.
But higher Asia- Europe and Med rates did not extend to the US-bound trades, with east coast prices falling 1.6 per cent to $3,279 per FEU and the west coast slipping 3.1 per cent to $2,122 per FEU.
Across all trades covered by the index the SCFI increased 13.1 per cent to 1,213.31 points.
