SPOT rates for shipping containers from Asia to northern Europe in the week ending Friday fell a further 7.2 per cent to US$593 per TEU, and have now lost an alarming 22 per cent in September.
The Shanghai-Mediterranean rates also lost more ground, slipping a further 6.9 per cent to $742 per TEU, according to the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI), reports London's Loadstar.
Carriers on the transpacific appear to have had some success in stemming the spot rate decline. Shanghai-US west coast rates were stable at $1,328 per FEU while China-US east coast were at $2,346 per FEU.
