Turkish maritime professionals secured first and second place in FONASBA's Young Ship Agent and Broker Awards 2026, marking a significant achievement.

The first and second place awards in the Young Ship Agent and Broker of the Year Awards by FONASBA were awarded to Turkish maritime professionals. Tamer Kıran, President of the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping, regarded this success as an important development for the future of Turkish maritime.
The results for the 2026 Young Ship Agent and Broker of the Year Awards (YABA), organized annually by the Federation of National Associations of Ship Brokers and Agents (FONASBA), have been announced.
In the competition, the first place award was won by Gizem Kandemir, while the second place award went to Captain Ayşe Aslı Başak. The achievement of two Turkish maritime professionals securing the top two positions in an international competition was welcomed with satisfaction in the Turkish maritime sector.
Tamer Kıran, Chairman of the Board of the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping, evaluated the success of the two young maritime professionals.
Kıran stated that they take great pride in the fact that the first and second place awards for 2026 were given to two young maritime professionals from Turkey in the competition organized by FONASBA.
He congratulated Gizem Kandemir and Captain Ayşe Aslı Başak for their papers and expressed that the success of the youth on the international stage showcases the strong potential of Turkish maritime.
Kıran remarked, 'The international success of our youth has once again highlighted the strong potential of Turkish maritime and our confidence in the future.'
Although the results of YABA 2026 have been announced, the ceremony to present the awards to the winners has not yet taken place.
According to FONASBA's schedule, the awards will be presented to the recipients during the FONASBA Annual Meeting to be held in Tokyo in October.
The competition allows young ship agents and brokers to showcase their work related to the sector on an international platform, and this year, Turkey's securing the top two spots drew attention.
