The “Safe Shipyards with Technology-Based Trainings Project”, which aims to develop an innovative and technology-based learning model in the shipbuilding industry, was implemented by the Turkish Shipbuilders' Association (GISBIR). The opening meeting of the project, which officially started on 01.02.2021, was held online on April 27, 2021 and the details were announced.

This revolutionary project, which aims to provide occupational health and safety more effectively and efficiently for the shipyard employees, has received 400 applications from the European Union supported "Occupational Health and Safety Improvement Grant Program" by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services and the Department of European Union and Foreign Relations. It became one of the 37 projects that were deemed worthy of support.

An “OHS Commission” was established within GISBIR within the scope of the project, and the project development was carried out with the approval and evaluations of the commission. Within the scope of the project that will move the stones in the shipbuilding sector, an e-learning platform was established and digital trainings were activated, where 15,000 people can receive training, inclusive of sector employees and young people receiving sectoral training.

Scenarios were created and implemented by using Virtual Reality, another method of technology-based education models. In this context, training contents were created by gamifying the precautions and precautions to be taken while working at height and working indoors by using Oculus glasses in the ship environment, which was transferred to the digital environment.

An OHS laboratory was established within Tuzla Piri Reis Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, which is the associate organization of the project, and our students were provided with access to these trainings. Students, occupational health and safety experts of the shipyards and human resources experts attended the publicity and information seminars held within the scope of the project. In addition, with two awareness seminars held at Piri Reis University, 500 people were informed about the project activities, objectives and the importance of OHS awareness.

In order to promote the project in Europe, visits were made to shipyards in Spain and good practices in European shipyards were examined.

On June 23, 2022, a closing meeting was held with the participation of President Murat Kıran within the body of GİSBİR, and the project was launched to the sector.
