Turkish ports managed 279.1 million tonnes of cargo in H1 2026, marking a 1.5% increase, with notable growth in June's figures.
Turkish ports handled 279.1 million tonnes of cargo and 7.02 million TEU in the first half of 2026, up 1.5 per cent and 1.3 per cent respectively, reports Saint Petersburg's PortNews.
June saw stronger growth, with cargo volumes rising 4.1 per cent to 46.92 million tonnes and container throughput edging up 0.2 per cent to 1.20 million TEU. International cargo excluding transit increased 1.1 per cent to 33.83 million tonnes, with inbound flows up 2.1 per cent and outbound down 0.4 per cent.
Transit cargo climbed 9 per cent to 6.40 million tonnes, while cabotage traffic rose 16 per cent to 6.69 million tonnes. Kocaeli led cargo handling in June with 7.61 million tonnes, followed by Alia?a at 7.57 million tonnes and Iskenderun at 5.44 million tonnes.
International container traffic grew 0.1 per cent to 866,292 TEU. Imports rose 3 per cent to 454,318 TEU, while exports fell 3 per cent to 411,974 TEU. Transit container handling increased 0.8 per cent to 241,550 TEU, while cabotage declined 0.4 per cent to 87,550 TEU.
Ambarli was the busiest container region in June with 296,247 TEU, ahead of Kocaeli at 217,727 TEU and Tekirdag at 192,893 TEU. Solid bulk volumes rose 7.6 per cent to 13.25 million tonnes and general cargo increased 19.4 per cent to 6.78 million tonnes, while liquid bulk fell 2.7 per cent to 13.72 million tonnes.
The Directorate General of Maritime Affairs, under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, oversees the regulation and development of maritime and inland-water transport and publishes official traffic statistics.
