Residents near Taşucu Port call for pest control as strong odors from an Angus cattle shipment disrupt daily life.
A ship carrying Angus cattle has docked at Taşucu Port, and the presence of live animals on board quickly became apparent due to the intense odor spreading throughout the port area. Citizens reported sensing the smell even without visual contact, indicating that the animal shipment had begun.
The strong scent from the port temporarily disrupted the usual sea air in Taşucu, adding the odor of Angus cattle to the familiar smells of iodine and fish. This unusual aroma was felt throughout the city, prompting reactions from the residents.
Local residents noted that when ships carrying live animals dock and wait for unloading, there is a noticeable increase in the population of houseflies and mosquitoes, negatively impacting their daily lives. They expressed concerns that while the animals are being transported to different regions of the country, the issues of odor and flies persist for those living near the port.
The community has called on the institutions and companies responsible for imports, particularly the Meat and Milk Institution (ESK), to conduct cleaning and maintenance operations before the ships arrive at the port. Citizens emphasized the need for timely and effective pest control measures to prevent the spread of houseflies and mosquitoes, demanding that authorities provide a permanent solution to the problem.
