The Republic of Korea Air Force's first C-390 transport aircraft is en route from Brazil, marking a significant milestone in military aviation.
The first Embraer C-390 Millennium transport aircraft for the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) is currently en route to South Korea, making a technical stop in Recife, Brazil, as reported by US-based Air Data News.
Flight tracking data indicated that the aircraft departed Brazil at approximately 1:26 PM local time, although Embraer had not formally announced the delivery as of May 23.
In 2023, South Korea ordered three C-390s under the Large Transport Aircraft II programme, in a deal valued at around US$470 million. The Brazilian aircraft was chosen over Lockheed Martin's C-130J Hercules, marking one of Embraer's most significant military export victories in the Asia-Pacific region.
The aircraft successfully completed its maiden flight in Brazil in March before undergoing testing and systems integration to meet South Korean operational requirements.
Upon acceptance, ROKAF will become the fourth operator of the C-390, following Brazil, Portugal, and Hungary. To date, Embraer has delivered 14 aircraft, including eight to Brazil, four to Portugal, and two to Hungary.
The manufacturer continues to pursue military transport campaigns globally, including in India, where it has partnered with Mahindra in a bid involving up to 60 aircraft. Additionally, Embraer is promoting specialized versions of the C-390 for aerial refueling and maritime patrol.
