Üsküdar Mayor Chief Engineer Sinem Dedetaş has been elected to an important position in the Council of Europe, carrying her successes in local governance to the international platform. Dedetaş has been appointed as the Vice President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities (CLRA), which operates under the Council of Europe and is held in Strasbourg, France.
This development is regarded as a recognition of Dedetaş's merit-based career and her vision for local governance on an international scale.
A career spanning from engineering to local governance
Sinem Dedetaş, who stands out as a shipbuilding engineer, graduated from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) with a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. She completed her master's degree at the same university and earned the title of Chief Naval Architect.
Dedetaş has held significant positions throughout her professional life, serving as the President of the 44th Term Board of Directors of the Chamber of Ship Engineers (TMMOB), making her the first female president in the chamber's history.
The first female general manager at Şehir Hatları
In 2019, Dedetaş was appointed as the first female general manager of Şehir Hatları AŞ, a subsidiary of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. During her tenure, she drew attention particularly with the modernization of the Haliç Shipyard and innovative projects implemented in maritime transportation.

As the candidate for Üsküdar Mayor from the Republican People's Party (CHP) in the 2024 local elections, Dedetaş won the election and became the first female mayor of the district.
