RSGT Bangladesh handled 154,564 TEU at Patenga Terminal in 2025, with exports leading. The terminal aims for full capacity by May 2026.

Saudi operator Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) Bangladesh reported handling 154,564 TEU at Chittagong's Patenga Container Terminal in 2025, with 78 vessels calling, according to Dhaka's Business Standard.

This figure is significantly below the terminal's annual capacity of approximately 450,000 TEU. Exports accounted for 93,340 TEU, while imports totaled 61,224 TEU, indicating a stronger performance in outbound cargo.

RSGT anticipates reaching full operational capacity by May 2026, following the commissioning of four new ship-to-shore cranes.

Monthly data indicated a slow start in early 2025, with throughput dropping to 3,464 TEU in April. However, volumes rebounded in May after the installation of a US$3 million scanner, which enhanced import handling capabilities.

The terminal processed 14,272 TEU in May, 13,390 TEU in June, and 14,865 TEU in July. August marked a peak month with 24,599 TEU, the highest since operations commenced in June 2024.

Throughput remained steady, with figures of 14,081 TEU in September, 18,304 TEU in October, 19,409 TEU in November, and 14,433 TEU in December.

Syed Aref Sarwar, head of commercial and public affairs at RSGT Bangladesh, emphasized the operator's focus on long-term performance, noting that the first two years were dedicated to procuring and commissioning essential equipment.

He stated that the arrival of the four cranes will significantly enhance vessel handling and productivity, reinforcing RSGT's commitment to being a trusted partner in Bangladesh's growth.

The Patenga Container Terminal is a crucial facility within Chattogram Port, which handles the majority of the country's containerized trade. Improved operations are deemed vital for sustaining export growth, particularly in the garments and manufacturing sectors.
