Qatar Airways Cargo secures IATA's CEIV Lithium Batteries certification, enhancing safety in high-risk shipments and setting industry standards.
Qatar Airways Cargo has achieved IATA's CEIV Lithium Batteries certification for both the airline and Qatar Aviation Services, positioning itself as an industry leader in the safe handling of high-risk shipments, reported IATA.
The carrier stated that the certification represents not only a regulatory milestone but also an opportunity to set new benchmarks for safety and reliability. It has invested heavily in workforce training and actively participates in global working groups to raise industry standards.
In response to the rising demand for battery-powered devices and e-commerce, Qatar Airways Cargo upgraded its unit load device fleet in 2021, incorporating fire containment covers and fire-resistant containers. The airline also promotes education and awareness across the entire supply chain.
Staff underwent intensive IATA training focused on risk mitigation and emergency response, fueling a rigorous self-assessment process. The airline achieved certification in just three months, becoming the first cargo airline in the Middle East and the second globally to secure this standard.
Continuous improvement has been central to their operations, with regular refresher training, audits, and updated procedures aligned with evolving regulations. Between 2022 and 2025, the airline successfully reduced lithium battery-related incidents by 20 percent.
This certification has boosted shipment volumes and attracted new customers, thereby strengthening partnerships and trust. Qatar Airways Cargo stated that this recognition provides a solid foundation to embrace emerging technologies and scale operations with safety and reliability.
