ZIM Integrated Shipping Services posts Q2 2026 net income of US$64 million, nearly tripling from last year, driven by higher freight rates.

Israeli container liner ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, the tenth-largest carrier in the world with an operated capacity of roughly 702,000 TEUs across a 116-vessel fleet, reported net income of US$64 million for the second quarter of 2026, up from US$24 million in the same period a year earlier, as higher freight rates and increased carried volume lifted quarterly revenue.

The company posted diluted earnings per share of US$0.53 for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with US$0.19 in the second quarter of 2025. Quarterly revenue reached US$1.78 billion, a year-over-year increase of nine percent, driven primarily by higher freight rates and greater carried volume.

Adjusted net income for the quarter was US$77 million, up from US$24 million a year earlier. Adjusted gross operating profit came to US$491 million, a year-over-year increase of four percent. Operating income for the second quarter was US$144 million, slightly below the US$149 million recorded in the second quarter of 2025.

The strong quarter contrasted with a weaker performance across the first six months of 2026. Total revenue for the first half was US$3.18 billion, down from US$3.64 billion in the first half of 2025, primarily due to lower freight rates and reduced carried volume.

ZIM carried 1.788 million TEUs in the first half of 2026, compared with 1.839 million TEUs in the same period a year earlier. The average freight rate fell to US$1,455 per TEU, down from US$1,632 per TEU in the first half of 2025.

Operating income for the first half of 2026 was US$126 million, a sharp decline from US$613 million in the first half of 2025, reflecting the drop in total revenue. The company recorded a net loss of US$22 million for the first half, compared with net income of US$320 million a year earlier, primarily due to lower total revenue, partially offset by income tax benefits. Adjusted net income for the first half of 2026 was US$4 million, down from US$318 million in the first half of 2025.

ZIM operates a predominantly chartered fleet, with 101 of its 116 vessels chartered and an orderbook of 23 ships totaling approximately 181,836 TEUs, positioning the carrier for continued capacity growth. The divergence between the company's second-quarter recovery and its softer first-half figures underscores the volatility of freight markets, where rate movements continue to shape carrier profitability quarter by quarter.
