    In 2025, the Port of Tomakomai handled 228,758 TEU, a 2% decline from 2024, with notable shifts in international and domestic container traffic.

    Throughput at Japan's Port of Tomakomai reached 228,758 TEU in 2025, marking a two percent decline from 2024, reported London's Port Technology International, citing preliminary figures from the Tomakomai Port Authority.

    International container shipments totaled 175,551 TEU. Exports amounted to 85,065 TEU, down 1.5 percent, while imports reached 90,486 TEU, a decrease of 1.3 percent.

    Feeder vessel containers accounted for 26,865 TEU outbound, down 6.7 percent, and 26,342 TEU inbound, down one percent. Total feeder volumes fell four percent to 53,207 TEU.

    Domestic container traffic dropped 14.1 percent to 44,021 TEU, bringing total container throughput to 272,779 TEU, down 4.2 percent. Seaborne cargo volumes rose 1.7 percent to 101.71 million tonnes, with exports up 5.9 percent to 1.38 million tonnes and imports up 11.9 percent to 16.6 million tonnes.

    Deliveries out rose 2.1 percent to 42.81 million tonnes, while deliveries in fell 2.5 percent to 40.92 million tonnes. Meanwhile, Yokohama Kawasaki International Port Corp. announced a trial to move empty containers by barge to improve logistics efficiency across the Keihin Ports of Tokyo, Kawasaki, and Yokohama.
