The Port of Oakland's container handling dropped in February due to Lunar New Year slowdowns, with exports still surpassing imports.
The Port of Oakland handled fewer containers in February as vessel traffic slowed during the Lunar New Year, reports Bay City News Service.
The port processed 163,254 TEU in February 2026, down 16.7 percent from January and 14.5 percent from a year earlier. Officials noted that vessel calls fell from 86 in January to 72 in February, partly due to planned blank sailings linked to factory closures during the holiday.
Despite the decline, exports outpaced imports. Oakland moved 86,796 export TEU compared with 76,458 import TEU, underscoring its role as a gateway for U.S. agricultural and refrigerated goods.
Import volumes fell 19.6 percent year-on-year, while exports dropped 9.5 percent, showing greater resilience amid shifting market conditions, according to the port.
