PANALPINA is preparing to open a new office in Muscat, Oman, in the third quarter to expand its Middle East operations and, in particular, tap Oman's lucrative oil market which produces 900,000 barrels of oil per day, accounting for 80 per cent of the country's revenue. Panalpina Oman will offer air freight, ocean freight and customs clearance services, reported London's Air Cargo News. The new office will also target businesses in Qatar.
'Oman has become a pivotal geographical location for cargo flows to and from Qatar. Unlike some of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Oman has not introduced economic sanctions and its trade with Qatar has increased by more than three times since the embargo started two years ago,' said Panalpina's Oman manager Charles Francis.
Panalpina, an international freight forwarding and logistics company, has just completed the registration of Panalpina Oman with a minority shareholding partner, the Daoud Group, which is a family-owned Omani business conglomerate.
