MPC Container Ships has welcomed two new 5,500 TEU vessels from South Korea, enhancing its fleet for ZIM Integrated Shipping Services.
MPC Container Ships, based in Norway, has taken delivery of two new 5,500 TEU feeder vessels, the Mackenzie and Colorado, built by HJ Shipbuilding and Construction in South Korea.
Each vessel measures 255 meters in length, with a beam of 37.3 meters and a draught of 13.9 meters. They have a deadweight of 64,300 tons and a gross tonnage of 52,228 tons, with the capacity to carry 850 reefer containers.
Propulsion is provided by a MAN-Hyundai 6G80ME-C10.5-HPSCR main engine, which is equipped with selective catalytic reduction technology to minimize NOx emissions. The vessels feature optimized hull designs that are expected to reduce fuel consumption by up to 40 percent compared to conventional ships.
Designed for future conversion to methanol fuel, these vessels could potentially reduce emissions by as much as 90 percent. They are equipped with advanced electronics, including Furuno radars and satellite communications.
Neither the Mackenzie nor the Colorado is fitted with cranes, relying instead on shore-based infrastructure for loading and unloading, which allows for additional container space. Both vessels are classed by DNV and sail under the Portuguese flag.
The Mackenzie and Colorado are currently serving seven-year charters with ZIM Integrated Shipping Services.
