Iran's state TV reports a draft deal with the US to restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and lift the naval blockade, pending verification.
Iran's state TV reported that it has obtained a draft framework for a memorandum of understanding with the United States that would restore commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and lift the naval blockade, according to Reuters.
Under the draft, Iran would return shipping to pre-war levels within a month, while the US would withdraw military forces from Iran's vicinity. The framework excludes military vessels and envisions Iran managing ship traffic in cooperation with Oman.
State TV indicated that the framework is not finalized and that Tehran would act only with 'tangible verification.' If a final agreement is reached within 60 days, it could be approved as a binding UN Security Council resolution.
The draft stems from indirect talks that were initiated after the war began in February, with Pakistan mediating between Tehran and Washington.
The conflict erupted following a sharp escalation between Iran and Israel earlier this year, with missile and drone attacks disrupting Gulf shipping and drawing in US military forces, raising fears of a wider regional confrontation.
