Interasia Lines marks a key milestone with the keel laying of a new 7,000-TEU container ship at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard, enhancing its fleet.
Interasia Lines has marked a milestone in its fleet modernisation programme with the keel laying of a new 7,000-TEU container vessel at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard, reported London's Logistics Manager.
The ceremony, held for Hull No. 1656, follows the steel-cutting phase that began in August 2025. It was attended by Li Zhizhong, director of SWS, and Leon Liu, supervising manager for Interasia Lines. The laying of the first hull block is a maritime tradition believed to bring good fortune.
The vessel is part of Interasia's expansion strategy after surpassing one million TEU in annual traffic in 2025. The company is scaling capacity to meet demand across its Intra-Asia network and extending services to India and East Africa.
The ship, designed as the SDARI Sealion 7000, has a capacity of 7,092 TEU and is optimised for fuel efficiency and low emissions. Delivery is scheduled for June 2026.
Interasia said the new tonnage will strengthen services such as the Korea-China-Indonesia route, positioning the carrier to compete on medium-haul corridors while maintaining regional agility. The investment underscores its transition from a feeder operator to a major integrated player in Asia's maritime sector.
