Hutchison Ports Thailand has surpassed 50 million TEU, a significant milestone, as it prepares to launch Terminal D by 2026 to enhance capacity.
Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) has surpassed the milestone of 50 million TEU handled since its establishment, marking a significant achievement in the country's maritime and logistics sector. The company is now preparing to launch its next phase with the completion of Terminal D, as reported by London's Port Technology International.
Terminal D, developed under the Eastern Economic Corridor framework, is set to be fully operational by early 2026. This new terminal is designed to enhance capacity and introduce advanced technologies to support Thailand's growing economy.
The terminal will feature a 1,700-metre berth with a depth of 16 metres, allowing it to accommodate the world's largest container vessels. Operations will be powered by digital systems, including the n-Gen Terminal Operating System, gate automation, and digitalized workflows.
Equipment at Terminal D will include 17 remote-controlled quay cranes, 43 remote-controlled rubber-tyred yard cranes, and 10 reach stackers. Once fully equipped, capacity is expected to rise to approximately 3.5 million TEUs.
Additionally, HPT plans to deploy autonomous trucks utilizing AI, sensors, and 3D mapping technology. These driverless vehicles will operate alongside electric trucks, enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
Stephen Ashworth, managing director of Thailand and Southeast Asia at Hutchison Ports, stated that reaching the 50 million TEUs milestone reflects over two decades of dedication, innovation, and partnerships. He expressed gratitude to customers, the Port Authority of Thailand, government agencies, and other stakeholders for their ongoing support.
