Georgia Ports Authority reports nearly 5.7 million TEU in 2025, marking its second busiest year, vital for economic growth and infrastructure.

The Georgia Ports Authority handled nearly 5.7 million TEU in 2025, marking its second busiest year on record and reflecting a 2.6 percent increase from 2024, reports LA's Global Trade magazine.

This performance was second only to 2022, when 5.9 million TEU moved through Savannah. GPA President and CEO Griff Lynch emphasized that the ports of Savannah and Brunswick remain vital to Georgia's economic growth.

Governor Brian Kemp praised the ports as key drivers of job creation and investment, while GPA chairman Alec Poitevint stated that continued infrastructure investment will keep Georgia competitive.

Savannah handled nearly 1,700 containership calls in 2025, averaging 1,878 containers per vessel. The port offers 39 weekly services, the most of any South Atlantic or Gulf Coast port.

Rail operations set records, with 545,214 containers moved, marking the fifth consecutive year above half a million. The Mason Mega Rail Terminal handled 42 double-stack trains weekly, while the Appalachian Regional Port saw a 19 percent rise to 45,700 containers.

Trucking efficiency improved, with dual moves averaging 50 minutes and single moves averaging 32 minutes. Savannah processed between 14,000 and 16,000 truck moves daily.

The GPA is advancing a US$4.5 billion self-financed plan to add five new container berths in Savannah and a new RoRo berth in Brunswick, representing the largest expansion of any US port.

Brunswick handled 832,194 autos and heavy equipment units in 2025, reflecting a 7.5 percent decrease. However, December volumes rose by 8.2 percent to 74,344 units. Luxury vehicle exports to China fell amid competition from domestic producers.

Savannah closed the year with December throughput of 439,630 TEU, down 0.6 percent from the same month in 2024.
