The Port of New York and New Jersey handled 4.4 million TEU in H1 2026, maintaining steady volumes amid US import market uncertainties.
The Port of New York and New Jersey handled 4.4 million TEU in the first half of 2026, keeping volumes broadly level with last year despite uncertainty in US import markets, reported Singapore's Splash 247.
June throughput rose 12 percent year on year, lifting the six-month total back in line with 2025. The gateway ranked as the second-busiest US port for loaded containers during the month.
First-quarter volumes fell 1.2 percent to 2.18 million TEU, as winter weather delayed vessel arrivals and disrupted cargo flows. March throughput climbed 6.9 percent to 837,993 TEU as ships held up by February storms docked.
The port is the largest container gateway on the US east coast, serving one of the country's biggest consumer and distribution markets. Its six marine terminals handle container, ro-ro, bulk, breakbulk, and project cargo, with rail links to inland markets across the northeast and Midwest.
The Port Authority is advancing its Port Master Plan 2050, covering terminal capacity, landside freight connections, rail infrastructure, and other investments to support long-term cargo growth.
